We caught up with 3rd year lineman and offensive captain, Will Carson, getting his thoughts on all things Royals, Sunday’s Varsity game against Gloucestershire and his secret rapping career?

Your three years with the Royals come to an end on Sunday, how do you hope the game goes?

"I want to enjoy the last time I kit up as Worcester Royal, playing alongside some of my best friend and ultimately bring home the win."

What will need to happen to bring home that win?

"We need to focus, and stay together as a whole team unit! Communication is key to success, between coaches and players. Most importantly we need to play hard and be the best we can be for each other."

If you do win, how will you celebrate?

"Dissertation writing!! Just kidding, I'll definitely be having a few deserved beers with the team! Weird to think three years of Royals football is coming to an end!"

Will winning Varsity be one the best way to end your University life?

"It'll be the only way to end university life, the thought of losing varsity in my final year is horrible!"

What's been your favourite memory with the Royals?

"There's been lots, my first game at centre against Birmingham will never be forgotten, neither will the victory in the mud against NTU! But ultimately winning varsity in second year, after losing such a close game in first year, is my favourite memory as a Royal!"

What has been your biggest motivation/inspiration in past three years of football?

"My biggest motivation is playing for a team! I block so the quarterback can make a pass or the running back finds a hole, so this team can be the best it can! Also Rich Smith, who had the task of transforming me in first year into an offensive lineman has been a big inspiration and motivation in keeping me playing football to the best of my ability."

You play offensive line, but you started off at running back - would you ever like to go back and try that position again?

"Aha! No I don't think so, it was never for me! I've always thought I'd make a good tight end though, but never got the opportunity!"

What makes you want to be a Tight end?

"You get to block and run some routes, make some catches! I love blocking, it's what I do as a lineman but I'd have loved to been able to make a few plays with my hands, maybe score a couple of touchdowns!"

Do you think of yourself as the Gronkowski of the team?

"I'd prefer Antonio Gates but I'll take Gronk! It's a very nice comparison! I've definitely got the best hands on the team!"

If you have the best hands, who has the second best?

"Good question, there's a bunch of people queuing up for that position, possibly rookie wideout James Deady? He has dropped a few clangers in practice recently though!"

Could you give him a lesson or two in grabs?

"I've been offering to give the whole offense a lesson on catching, I've not been allowed!"

Do you have any secret talents that most of the team are unaware of?

"Umm I'm not sure, I'm pretty open most of the team know everything about me! I think I'm a good singer, but I have been known to unleash my vocals in the changing rooms!"

What would be your go to karaoke song?

"Great question, I'd give anything a go! But being put on the spot I could bash out another rendition of Les Mis as I have done before!"

Tell us about your rapping career:

"I love grime and rap music! So much so that at school I released my own song it's a friend, it's very good give it a listen!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIdxrMM-W6I

If you could do another sport at University which would it be?

"Umm I wouldn't change playing football for anything, but if I had to pick one I’d probably play soccer! I played a lot before uni and am starting to miss playing a little!"

What do you do if you want to relax and wind down?

"Usually listen to some music or watch a good film joined by a glass of red wine! Cabernet Sauvignon is pretty tasty"

If you had to take any member of the team to the cinema to watch a movie who would it be and why?

"I probably wouldn't be able to narrow it down to just one! I'd have to take the whole offensive line unit and coaches! We are a tight group!"

If you could meet any celebrity who would it be?

"I'd like to meet any celebrity that'd be cool! A football celebrity would be an easier one to answer; it'd be Philip Rivers, he's such a good player and he plays hard every down. Such a competitor!"

Carson will be part of the Royals squad that conclude their 2015/16 season this Sunday, in the Varsity grudge match against fierce rivals Gloucestershire Gladiators.
