Royals Charity Game in Aid of CLIC Sargent a Huge Success

Royals enjoyed charity game success on Saturday, overcoming the Alumni 18 - 0 in a physical game that helped spread awareness for cancer support charity CLIC Sargent.
The match was a chance for the current Worcester University American Football squad to take on their former teammates all in the name of charity. The game helped raise over £250 for CLIC Sargent and will be viewed as a memorable moment for the club, the players involved and the sport of American football in Worcester.
Worcester Royals Alumni and current defensive co-ordinator for the Royals, Josh Chambers, was very pleased with the game’s success. “The support we received for the game was overwhelming.” Said Josh. “Without the support of the local community and our friends and family the event would not have been such a success.”
A massive thank you has to go out to all that helped and supported us to make the game happen.”
I hope this will become a yearly event and a permeable fixture on the Royals calendar.”
A good sized crowd, made up of both University of Worcester students and Worcester residents, saw the Royals and Alumni play out the fixture. Second year running back Mike Harris punched in two scores on the ground for the hosts, with the final score coming off an interception return from third year lineman Andrew Moscrop.
At the end of it all the scoreline took a back seat as the partnership between charity and football entered the spotlight. A huge amount of support was shown for the event prior to the event with in excess of £100 being raised through the sale of T-shirts to commemorate the game. Further donations were made towards the cause on the day and via the official Just Giving page.
The Royals will now enjoy a well earned break over Easter before a return to training, at the beginning of April, when Varsity and an the eagerly anticipated grudge match with Gloucester will become the ultimate focus. This game is set to take place on either the 17th or 24th April.
