What a year it’s been for the Royals, finishing the 2014/15 season with 5 - 2 record, their best ever season, a Varsity victory over Gloucestershire for the first time since 2008 and now a record breaking Fresher sign up.

Right now is a great time to be a Royal, with around one-hundred and forty signing up in Fresher’s week, over fifty new faces showing up to taster and training sessions, and even an appearance on BBC Midlands Today to shout about. On top of all that there’s even the continuation of the club’s partnership with Worcester based sports bar ‘Mode’ generating excitement.

It’s safe to say that preparations for the 2015 season are ready to put the Royals in good stead for the upcoming season and their opening fixture against Staffordshire on November 8th.

“We are better prepared as a team than we have ever been.” Said club secretary Mike Harris.

“Although there have been some big losses in terms of certain players, the one’s that have replaced them are making us look like a really strong side.”

The club has been busy this offseason, there’s no questioning that, and as players and coaches left for summer on a high celebrating a memorable 2014/15 campaign, they knew that hard work was needed to build upon the previous year.

Fresher’s week began in late September and the strides made during the offseason ultimately would only show if enough new players signed up during the Sports and Activities fair. The hundred and forty students that came to the stand, put their name down and met the players was everything that the Royals had prayed for.

“The number of people that did sign up was promising.” Said Harris.

“It shows what we offer is exciting and what people are after. “

But the good stuff didn’t end there, a great rookie taster weekend, on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th, followed with sessions on both days giving the freshers their first taste of American Football with the Royals.

This marked the end of Freshers, the start of lectures for the players and the official start of full training for the club with both returners and rookies attending.

“I feel like they’ve (The Freshers) bought into the team pretty quickly.” Said Harris

“What’s obvious is that we’ve picked up a good mix of personalities. They’re working hard and fitting in well, creating a positive attitude and good team chemistry.”

As the returners and coaches looked to get settled in with new squad members and develop them into American Football players on the pitch, big things were still happening off it. Royals players appeared in a BBC Midlands Today feature on American Football, its ever growing interest among the British public and that weekends ‘International Series’ game at Wembley. Lastly the Royals could celebrate an agreement being reached on extending their partnership with Worcester based sports bar Mode, a partnership that both parties are thrilled to continue and develop.

“We’re really pleased that discussions with Mode were positive.” Said Harris, “we’re glad that our professionalism and use of media has allowed us to establish positive link that benefits both parties in the long term.”

“We’re excited to continue working with Mode and attending a number of social events there such as enjoying the NFL games on a Sunday, and of course the Super Bowl in February.”

With success on and off the field this offseason has been nearing close to perfection for a club who, after winning their first ever league game in 2013 and achieving a winning season for the first in 2015, find themselves playing in division I football. The Royals will be hoping for a great year and will be looking to celebrate their 10th anniversary with plenty more success on the pitch.
